Flash World Clock FAQ

Is Flash World Clock really free to use?

Yes. Flash World Clock is free to use on your web site if you provide a link from any page of your site referencing WR Consulting as product author. Read the license page for full details.

I don't want to provide a link to you. Can I still use Flash World Clock?

Not without a link or a payment. If you'd like to buy an option to use Flash World Clock without a link please request your pricing quote by writing to sales @ wrconsulting.com and provide details about your site.

How does it work?

Flash World Clock is a Macromedia Flash plugin. It runs in user browser and uses local computer PC clock as a reference point. The plugin takes parameters from a page that loads it, which define clock time zones and other details.

Can you help me to configure Flash World Clock?

Certainly. We'll try to help you to configure Flash World Clock free of charge, if our current work load permits. Send your request for help to support @ wrconsulting.com.

How do I change the colors of Flash World Clocks?

Changing colors of Flash World Clocks is not possible at this time. Clocks are green during business open hours and blue at other times. You can define working hours by changing clock parameters in your HTML. For example, here work hours are defined from 09:00 to 18:00 Monday through Friday (work=0900-1800.12345):

name="FlashVars"
value="db=http://wrconsulting.com/flash/code/zic.php?z$Australia/Sydney&label=Sydney&work=0900-1800.12345">

To change working hours to 10:00 - 14:00 every day change the end of the string to "work=1000-1400.0123456".

Can I put Flash World Clock on an internal web site?

Absolutely. You can put Flash World Clock on an internal web site (intranet) if you provide a link to us. Read Flash World Clock Usage License for further details.

I need to host a zoneinfo clock and all required code for it locally. Can I do it?

Certainly. Here is how:
  • Download the code from here and put it on your server. The code is written in PHP. PHP must be configured and work properly on your server.
  • In your HTML for the clock change addresses of all requests accordingly so that they go to your server. Test the clock. If everything is configured correctly the clock should work at this point.
  • Download the latest zoneinfo DATA file from this FTP site: ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/
The name of the file is tzdataYYYYX.tar.gz, where YYYY stand for a year, and X is a letter (a-z) indicating the current year iteration of the data file, for example: tzdata2007g.tar.gz.
  • Unpack the files and drop them down into the data section in Flash World Clock folder on your server. You should do it to keep your clocks in sync with the recent time zone changes in the world.
